Calcutta - New Jalpaiguri

Getting to Darjeeling

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and probably the most scenic railway journey in the world, ghoom station at a height of 7408 ft. is the highest train station in Asia and the second highest in the world.

This train is now diesel hauled, though occasionally a steam engine is used when the diesel engine is having it's regular maintenance, I have been told that this happens every 3 or 4 days.
