Yusmarg day trip
We woke up around 7:00 in the morning, I went for little walk for morning freshness. We have to get ready by 9:00 for going to Yusmarg, we had tea @ hotel with our bakery items purchased day before, were quite heavy. We got ready by 8:45 & got call from our new friends Sanjay Dada, I told them to pick me up from dal lake otherwise I have to give another Rs.100 to auto guy for that,
We told them to pick me up from Ghat No. 9 Dal Lake. This way you can easily locate the exact place to reach to the person. Our journey started around 9:10 am.
We 5 Adults going to Yusmarg with the driver Khursid on a sumo,
On the way we saw lots of green apple trees, only few were getting little shade of red, he also show us tree of almond with green almonds hanging on it, then he show us walnut (akhrot) & apricots (khurmani) tree also…
It depends on your season in which you are going as every season show you different fruits, he said aloo bukhara (plum) we just miss them, If anybody coming through travel agents, check your travelling dates as you will not see all fruits in Kashmir all year round.
Then we went to Chrar-e-Sharief on the way to Yusmarg, we leave 10:36 from here for Yusmarg, for another 18 kms from there it takes 1 hour to reach yusmarg we reached around 10:40 there (thanx to bad road which comes after chrar-e-sharif, roads are under construction, lets hope it will be completed in another 6 months, But it’s a bad road not a damage road so you can go ahead..
Before reaching to actual spot roughly 1 kms there are few restaurants.
After reaching yusmarg we see JKTDC restaurant, we gone there we really find the restaurant out of order state, Table’s are not clean, lots of flies also there for morning breakfast...
Then I asked a single waiter available there about water bottle he said sorry we don’t have one right now, without much hope I ask for tea & omelette but for a change it was available. It was nice & simply cooked. Around Rs.150
Then we came out side & got to know that you need pony to explore yusmarg now for four points they were asking Rs.1050/- per head, and this was really bad part of Kashmir that you spend around 2000 to visit each place & then still you have to pays thousand to explore it,
We sat on pony yesterday & don’t want to go again on long trip , we try to bargain with pony walla for Doodganga but they did not bargain, so 5 of us gone for Doodganga, may be if go to more than 1 point then they will bargain, but the problem is not this only if you only opt for doodganga the road you see from entry gate is well maintained but as soon come to end of the visible road there totally different full of mud stone mountain ahead, this is really bad in my view you are cheating tourist by showing good passage & changing it drastically.
Anyhow we reached doodganga, we hardly stayed 15 min there and our pony guy telling us we should come back, after 30 min we started our journey back, I requested him to take me from any other route, he told me that if you will opt for darhag I will take you from hills and it is pretty safe, I told him I will give Rs.100 extra but he didn’t agreed want Rs.250 extra…
(So I advice you if you opt for dargah he will take you from hill & after …. Few point if you go to doodganga, comeback from that route only, strictly avoidable in rainy season was really scary……on pony)
We came back around 1:30 pm, stayed there till 4:00 pm. it is good place with less tourist, we found it peaceful good big green landscape mountain.If you having kids & take some football or outdoor activity there , you can play there without any worry,We came back to Srinagar around 6:00 had our lunch or high tea because we don’t find much there, so don’t want to try anything there.
When we enquire JKSTC regarding bus to sonmarg they have told us because of Yatra sonmarg bus will go to balatal which is 16 kms from sonmarg ahead, so on the way he will leave us & evening around 5 they will pick us from sonmarg, and for this ticket around 350/- (but I am little double minded not sure) , our driver finally agreed for 2000 for sonmarg , so its coming 400/- per head to us… so we opted for Sumo only for next day also… This day we gone for some shopping also…Eat dinner on Lhasa around 350/- & then back to hotel….

Food charges whole day around :700
Pony ride = 120 per head
